Despite ponds and streams on 6 of the 9 holes, Randall Altman, playing as 3rd man posted a 2nd place score of 50 on the front nine in his first Junior Varsity golf meet at Roseville’s Timber Creek Golf Club. Woodcreek easily defeated neighboring Antelope High School, winning on all 6 players scores. Playing from the Blue tees, the course has a slope of 122 and a course rating of 69.3.
Randall got off to a good start on the tight, 334 yard first hole. He solidly hit his first drive. He chipped in from just off the green for a par. The difficult par 5 second hole was a challenge for Randall, as he carded a 10. He recovered nicely from that hole and went on to get one more par along with a birdie. With his father in the gallery on the 8th hole, Randall far outdrove his teammates and competitors with a long drive down the right side of the fairway. He proceeded to hit a low 9-iron over a pond and stuck it within 10 feet of the hole. He sunk a the birdie putt, giving him a chance to break 50 with a score of 44 after 8 holes.
The most difficult hole on the front nine, the double ponded 358 yard 9th hole got off to a good start for Randall. Once again he far outdrove the foursome with a perfect drive down the left side of the fairway. With a difficult 6-iron over a large pond and large bunker fronting a deep green with a back pin position, Randall hit his iron a bit thin, and while it cleared the pond by 2 feet, it dribbled back in the pond as it hit a slope. He took his drop nearby, chipped on, and took a double bogey 6 to close out his round with a personal best 50.
